About the Career Compass Mentor Program
Thank you for your interest in serving as a career mentor through College Solutions! Please find below a general overview of the program and expectations.
Overview:
As college admissions continue to evolve and more universities now admit by major, College Solutions is looking for ways to help students speak from authentic, firsthand experience. Our new career mentorship program offers short, meaningful opportunities for high school students to explore professional paths and tell a stronger story in their college applications.
The Career Compass Mentorship Guide connects high school students with professionals in fields that interest them. Over three 45-minute meetings, students gain firsthand insight into a mentor’s daily work, learn what skills and education are needed for success, and reflect on whether this field aligns with their interests and strengths.
Structure:
The program is designed to be flexible, recognizing that every profession has its own compliance requirements and logistical constraints. This is a volunteer opportunity for career mentors interested in sharing more about their chosen career path with high school students. Each student meets with one professional mentor for three sessions (45 minutes each). There are two ways to participate:
Job Shadow Experience: A virtual or in-person opportunity (usually over the course of three short days) for a student to observe your work and gain insight into your field.
Mentorship Series: For professionals who cannot host a shadow, we offer a structured virtual three-part informational interview model supported by custom interview guides and student reflection assignments.
Participation simply involves being listed in our College Solutions Mentor Directory, which includes your headshot and a brief biography. If a student is interested in shadowing or connecting, we will contact you directly.
Program Goals:
Build communication and professional confidence
Understand career environments, roles, and skill expectations
Connect school learning to real-world applications
Develop reflection materials for college and scholarship essays
